Cooling and Warming Center
- Consider going to a friend's or family's home.
- Also see Central Iowa Shelter and Services in the resource guide. They have a homeless advocate who covers Jasper County, Call YourLife Iowa to get in contact.
- All Jasper County public libraries and community centers, along with some public buildings throughout Jasper County during normal business hours.
- Each community has designated cooling and warming sites,
- In Newton, the Salvation Army, Discover Hope, and Capstone Connections Center during business hours.
- Many other human service agencies, stores, and churches are willing to provide temporary assistance.
- Consider where your services are received and contact your assigned organization or counselor, caseworker, such as Schools, Medicaid, DHS, Mental Health, Substance Treatment, Probation, Pregnancy Center, etc.
- If you have a faith community, contact them for assistance.
- Transportation is available to shelters. See transportation in the guide.
- Each community should have a plan in place for emergencies.
- Law enforcement will usually assist individuals after hours as a last resort.

Newton Public Library
The Newton Public Library is a community resource providing a unique place for lifelong readers.
The Newton Public Library:
- supports and assists readers in pursuing personal growth and learning goals;
- provides free public access to the Internet and digital services;
- fosters, encourages, and stimulates young people's interest in reading and learning; and
- provides a public space where people meet and interact with others in the community

- Youth: Storytime, 1000 books before kindergarten, adventure pass, STEM kits of rKids, Jasper County Imagination Library, Youth Programs and Events.

- limited rent and utilities for low-income residents of Jasper County who have received utility disconnects or rental evictions, as funds are available.

- Salvation Army Thrift Store: clothes, household items, and accepts donations. Volunteers neeed.
- Emergency Food Pantry is by appointment only. Accepts food and hygiene donations.
- Jasper County residents can use the emergency food pantry once every 30 days for canned goods, packaged foods, and other staples. Those wishing to use the pantry are required to complete a form provided by The Salvation Army as well as give identification, employment verification or paycheck stubs, a piece of current mail to validate residency, and Social Security cards for all members of the household. The food pantry may be closed for restocking two days a month.
- Bread Line and Produce Giveaway: In Newton, Fridays from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Outside of Newton, check with your local food pantry.
- Any Jasper County residents in need on a first-come, first-served basis. There are no income requirements.

Free Lunch Weekdays
Discover Hope 517 Ministry (DH517)
Faith-Based Ministry: Showers available by appointment. Warming and cooling location during regular hours.
Bread of Life offers free lunches to those in need of a meal, with no questions asked. The meals are available in DH517 Community Center from Monday to Friday, between 11:30 am and 1:00 pm. Additionally, if you need food for your home, please visit our front desk volunteers for a food box.
Breaking Free is our all-recovery meeting. Anyone seeking freedom from the bondage of addiction is welcome to join us. We serve a free community meal at 5:30 pm, before the Recovery group starts at 6 pm. We also have a welcome/worship time with music before the lesson, with curriculum and small group discussion. Our lessons are gospel and recovery-focused on redemption, renewal, and restoration. This group is also a support group for the family members of the addict or the recoveree.
