Signature requirements for City Candidate Nomination Petitions are as follows:

The number of signatures required on nomination petitions depends on the number of registered voters in the school district or director district (1% of registered voters in school district or director district on May 1 with a minimum of 10 and maximum of 50). On May 1, 2023, the number of signatures required for each candidate’s nomination petition in your school district was determined in our office.

Important Dates

Important City/School Election Dates

August 29th – First day to accept absentee ballot requests for the regular City/School Election

The deadline for candidates to file paperwork to be on the ballot for the City/School Election on November 7th, 2023 is September 21st, 2023, at 5:00 pm. Candidates will file paperwork with their city clerk or school board secretary. 

October 9th – Satellite Voting petition deadline for regular City/School Election 5:00 pm

October 18th – Absentee voting in the Auditor’s office begins

October 23rd- Regular City/School Election voter pre-registration deadline & Regular City/School Election worry-free postmark date for voter registration forms 5:00 pm 

Deadline to request absentee ballot to be mailed for Regular City/School Election 

After 5:00 pm voters admitted to nursing homes may call to request delivery of an absentee ballot for the Regular City/School Election

Last day to appoint Precinct Election Officials for Regular City/School Election 5:00 pm

November 6th- Last day to vote absentee in Auditor’s Office 

November 7th – Election Day

Polls open at 7:00 am and close at 8:00 pm—You MUST go to your polling location to vote on Election Day

All absentee ballots (except UOCAVA & Safe at Home) must be received by 8:00 pm

Deadline for telephone request for delivery of absentee ballot 4:00 pm for voters admitted to hospitals and nursing homes.

November 13th – Absentee ballot deadline for Regular City/School Election for UOCAVA & Safe at Home. Ballots confirmed to be sent on the day before the election or earlier by postmark or postal service barcode and received by 12:00 noon on this date are considered to be on time to be counted
