In Iowa, county taxes are primarily funded through property taxes. Property taxes are assessed on the value of real estate within the county and are the primary source of revenue for most county governments. Property taxes are used to fund a wide range of services, protective services, and road and infrastructure maintenance, general services, conservation, exclusive services, and county support.
