Courtroom 301 Renovation

Posted 4/23/24 ·

Here's a note from our Jasper County Maintenance Director, Adam Sparks!

"This is courtroom 301 in the courthouse which is the magistrate courtroom.  15 years ago, when the entire courthouse was re-carpeted, this courtroom was left out because of its lack of use and the overall condition it was in.  We left the carpet in this courtroom and judges chambers behind the courtroom.  About 9 years ago, we gave this courtroom and office a face-lift, we removed the drop ceiling that was in both rooms, removed all the wood paneling off the walls, built bulk heads around all the exposed plumbing, re-textured all the walls, and painted all the walls and ceiling.  We left the carpet again during that time because we knew at some point, we would be doing another carpet project.  Since then, we have re-carpeted the Grand Courtroom, the Board of Supervisors room, the new Recorder’s office, the Auditor’s office, the vault in the old Recorder’s office, and now we have re-carpeted courtroom 301.  All these rooms have been re-carpeted with a 2x2 tile carpet.  This allows us to replace high traffic areas, stained areas, etc., without replacing an entire room.  This is how we will proceed down the road with all our buildings so we can hopefully get away from doing entire carpet projects down the road.  Courtrooms 306 and 303 had high quality court systems installed in them about 5 years ago.  This was installed by the state and turns the courtrooms into high quality courtrooms with all the equipment needed to do any court case.  Courtroom 301 was left out at the time because the state didn’t see the need in having that equipment in courtroom 301.  5 years have passed and now the state wants to install that equipment in courtroom 301.  To have all the equipment installed properly, we had to remove the carpet, bust up the floor to run conduit in for data wires and power, and then re-pour the floors.  Once all that was completed, we re-carpeted the rooms and put everything back."
